For most amateur photographers, Leica’s legendary M System represents a virtually unobtainable holy grail, a line of cameras so unspeakably expensive, rare, and coveted that even having the opportunity to hold one — much less own one — is a somewhat unrealistic goal. Why is that, exactly? It’s a combination of things, really; sure, Leica’s brand cachet undoubtedly factors into it, but in reality, it’s much, much more than that. For our money, nothing demonstrates that better than a day or two with the M9, the company’s latest flagship rangefinder with an 18 megapixel CCD sensor sourced from Kodak.

And what, exactly, does it feel like to carry $11,695 worth of rangefinder body and lens around? Follow the break.

Japanese Acer Aspire One 532h Gets 3G

While it doesn’t look like the Acer Aspire One 532h will be getting a matte display like the folks over in Germany, but it does offer another, possibly more useful, feature. We’re talking about built-in 3G via NTT DoCoMo’s FOMA service. It’ll be going on sale from April 16th at DoCoMo’s online store for 50,000 Yen ($535). Other specs of this netbook remain constant with the original model, which means:

GameStop listings are about as accurate as a 14th century musket — especially when it comes to release dates — but that didn’t keep news site GameSpot from capping the above screenshot. As you can no doubt read, the picture suggests that SanDisk will indeed release a specially-branded 8GB USB flash drive alongside the Xbox 360′s USB storage update — but at twice the normal price for a drive of that capacity. Our red hot rage at this injustice is tempered somewhat knowing there’s no concrete proof the $40 figure is correct, but knowing SanDisk (and, frankly, Microsoft’s own propensity for overpriced storage) we wouldn’t be surprised to see several green thumbdrives pulling a premium at retail next week. Once more for the record: as long as it’s larger than 1GB, smaller than 16GB and you format it using the Xbox 360 menus, any USB flash drive will do.

Microvision lets others sample its PicoP Laser Display Engine

We’re guessing that if you haven’t bought a pico projector by now it isn’t because they’re just too big, but Microvision is doing its part to help make ‘em smaller nonetheless. The company has begun initial shipments of its PicoP Laser Display Engine, found inside the Show WX, for other companies who want to make their own projectors — or rifles. The circuitry that’s half the size of the tech in competing pico projectors while still managing WVGA (848 x 480) resolution and a 5000:1 contrast ratio. No word on cost but we’re guessing there’s a discount if you buy in bulk, and shipping ought to be cheap.

LinkedIn Now Available For BlackBerry

Considering that BlackBerry phones are generally viewed as business devices, it’s actually a little surprising to see that the iPhone LinkedIn app has been around for a good 18 months and there wasn’t a LinkedIn BlackBerry app in sight. Now that is set to change as LinkedIn has just released a free dedicated BlackBerry app. The company said the reason for the delay is that they wanted to create a product that wasn’t just a copy of its iPhone app, rather something that was specifically designed for the BlackBerry. That’s idea is evident when you find out that the app can integrate with native BlackBerry apps, such as calendar and mail, allowing you to click on the name of someone you’re supposed to meet, and instantly check their LinkedIn profile. Now the next question on everyone’s lips is whether there will be a LinkedIn Android app anytime soon.

Us freeloaders still have a bit of a wait left, it seems, but paying members of Apple’s iPhone Developer Program (which now services iPad devs, too) now have access to the Gold Master seed of the iPhone SDK for OS 3.2. This is a pretty big deal since it’s the very first version of the operating system to support the iPad, of course — and seeing how the first volley of iPads hits retail this weekend, it couldn’t come at a better time. Let us know if you find anything wild in this new build, and we’ll do the same, alright?

[Thanks, Kory H.]

Alongside the Get Smart shoe phone, Beijing Gorld’s 600TW e-reader / cellphone has to be one of the less useful combos we can imagine. As an E Ink device, it’s pretty straightforward — 6-inch display and a battery life of approximately 6,000 page turns. And there’s no denying that the plethora of connectivity options (including SMS messaging, GSM, GPRS, and EDGE, WiFi, and Bluetooth) is a pretty sweet deal. All the same, we can’t really picture this thing providing a satisfying handset experience at all. Available in China for 2,880 yuan (about $420).
