Huawei’s E398 triple-mode modem is something different, as it is the first of its kind in the world, being a triple-mode LTE modem that plays nice with all three major network standards – LTE, UMTS and GSM. This allows you to enjoy high speed LTE access while switching over to other standards (UMTS or GSM) without a hitch whenever LTE is unavailable. The E398 was also specially designed to address increasing requirements for operators to introduce commercial LTE services with flexible evolution roadmaps. It will hit Sweden first, being made available by Net4Mobility.

While I’m sure many of you already know about the amazing service known as Chatroulette, I thought I’d introduce it to the three or four of you who don’t already know. Basically, it’s like Russian Roulette, with less bloodshed and much more penis.
Chatroulette lets you view a random users webcam from around the world, allowing you to unshamefully skip anyone you find boring, moving you onto the next persons cam. I shall warn you that if you have an irrational fear of random men masturbating, this is probably not the service for you. But it’s really simple. Just report the cam and move on. No harm, no foul. Ok, maybe a little bit of harm and just a dash of foul, but all the penis is worth the pure addictiveness.
And yes, for those who are wondering, that is me in the bottom picture, wearing the big nose disguise, not that I’d even have to wear it for the nose. Just sayin’. Hey, I’m a Jew, leave me alone.

Tired of the extended wait for an actual iPad, Jason Guest decided to take matters into his own hands and produce his own hackneyed version of the iPad… completely composed of felt. Arts and crafts are back in a huge way among the geek community and this addition to the crafters arsenal is a welcomed advancement in felt technology. In fact, it might even fit in your new pair of iGotaBigAssPockets.
While you won’t be playing any of the games available on iTunes on the iFelt, you can always go medieval on that ass and have a good ole fashioned rousing round of iFelt frisbee. You know, where you actually have to, like, move your arms.
The life of a gadget lover tends to involve a lot of waiting, so it’s always nice to be surprised by a roadmap getting shorter rather than longer. Sprint has told Forbes that its very first WiMAX phone will be arriving in the first half of this year, which will be somewhat earlier than many had expected. We’re likely talking about that A9292 “bar handset” from HTC that was spotted in January, as Forbes goes on to note that it’s likely to be a HTC-built Android device. The aptly-titled Supersonic seems like the obvious, albeit unconfirmed, prime candidate here. Further word from Paget Alves, Sprint’s president of Business Markets, indicates that businesses and government agencies might be the first adopters, which must mean whatever handset’s being discussed will be at least somewhat business-friendly. Finally, CEO Dan Hesse himself is cited as saying Sprint will be bringing out “dozens of devices” with embedded WiMAX this year, so even if you don’t like the first one, there should be plenty of options come the holidays.
[Thanks, Douglas]

Verizon posted an articlewith a video showing how to use your Verizon Motorola DROID or HTC Imagio as a remote for the Verizon FiOS TV. The basic features you expect from a remote are available from your phone: change channels, manage parental controls, pause, rewind, fast forward or record, additionally you can transfer one photo at a time from the cellphone to the television or view a slideshow stored in the phone using the touchscreen user interface. When a call comes the TV will be automatically muted.
The application called Mobile Remote is available on the application store accessible from the phone and you set it up through the in-home Wi-Fi network by opening up the Mobile Remote Widget on the TV and selecting either the Motorola Droid or HTC Imagio icon. Inspired by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein and Robert Indiana, these pop art-infused Converse sneakers integrate famous pop prints into the design of the shoe. No Warhol that I can tell, but who cares, Warhol is everywhere already.
Did you ever think you’d own sneakers featuring Banday dots? I think not.

Forget about using your fingers to control the volume of your earphones, alongside a change in tracks. NTT DoCoMo demonstrated their new eye-controlled earphones at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. All eye movement is detected by electrodes, enabling users to send commands to their device where among them include play, pause, and skip. This is made possible since eyeballs contain minute electrical potential which can be measured by sticking electrodes in our ears. Apparently, specific eye gestures can be recorded to perform just about any command on a smartphone. We do wonder whether it is really more convenient compared to the tried and tested method of using one’s fingers and buttons.

At first glance, Bug Labs’ latest creation actually seems like a bit of a downgrade from the version it replaces — it loses the onboard LCD display and a handful of buttons, after all — but we sat down with CEO Peter Semmelhack today on the hustling, bustling floor of MWC to get the straight dope on what makes the BUGbase 2.0 a superior product. First of all, you can’t overlook the fact that they’ve moved to a Cortex A8-based OMAP3530, an appreciable boost from the ARM11 core it replaces, but it turns out there are a whole bunch of subtler changes too, like the inclusion of on-board audio out (pictured above toward the left of the base), HD video out capability through a module, and a second microSD slot. Why two, you ask? Isn’t 32GB of external storage enough? Probably, but Semmelhack points out that the second slot (covered behind a flap) is dedicated to loading the operating system, making it a trivial task to quickly switch between kernels or get unbricked.
Although the unit we saw today has functional guts, we’re told that the casing is pre-production — not to say that “production” BUGbases need to look amazing, anyway, considering that they’re frequently used for prototyping themselves. Though Android’s already been ported to the Bug platform, the company is really driving home the message in 2.0; when you think about it, this kind of makes any Android dev out there a de facto Bug dev, so that’s a nice angle to play. Look for it to ship by “early Summer,” so it’s time to scoop up that first-gen unit now if you’re jonesing for the integrated display.
