We know, we know — AT&T’s 3G MicroCell isn’t even out nationwide yet, but for those select markets that have access, we’re hoping you’ll chime in on the pros and cons as to enlighten the other folks before their time comes. By and large, the GSM femotocell works exactly like the Airave for Sprint, though this one does fully support 3G data as well as simultaneous voice and data usage. For those that have taken the plunge: are you satisfied with the value proposition? Is reception really any better? Have you ditched your landline yet? What would you change about the service or billing? Voice your opinion on the matter below, and remember, life doesn’t present you with many chances such as this. Wouldn’t want to waste it, now would we?

It seems that Sony Ericsson might be going into a rather stressful holiday season. Why do we say that? Well, aside from the existing issues with the Saito that they’re trying to tackle, it seems that its other flagship phone, the Aino, might have some issues with the phones’ touchscreen capabilities. A spokesperson for Sony Ericsson has said that only a small number of Aino units have issues, and they’re working as quickly as possible to sort things out.

Nintendo’s been doing a bit of digging and it turns out it’s already won the console wars. If we’re only talking about the ladies, that is. A whopping 80% of American female primary gamers (the person who primarily uses the console rather than the occasional dabblers) do their thing on the Wii, which we see as a clear indication to the graphics-obsessed Xbox 360 and PS3 developers that women prefer their games to be fun to play, rather than just look at. Maybe if we also stopped dressing female characters in swimsuits, they’d find non-Wii games relatable too — that’s just a guess though, probably wrong.

We know you’ve got questions, and if you’re brave enough to ask the world for answers, here’s the outlet to do so. This week’s Ask Engadget question is coming to us from David, who’s looking to get himself a boot drive that’s fast, durable, fast, reliable and fast.
“I’m looking for a solid state drive, around 32 to 64GB, for use in my web server. The drive will contain my web sites and the operating system, either Windows Server 2008 R2 or Ubuntu. Large storage is handled by a separate RAID array, so capacity is not an issue. Rather, I am looking for the fastest, longest-lasting, and most reliable drive under $150 that is suitable to my application. Any thoughts? Thanks!”
SSDs still aren’t cheap, but the smaller ones have definitely come down quite aways in price. Anyone got a particular 32GB or 64GB platter that they’re hearting at the moment? Go ahead, let your crush be known.

Sometimes it just goes to show that you’re more valuable famous that you are being an average Joe. We’re not saying anything bad about Ashley Towns’ programming skills, but there are certainly a lot of people out there who won’t be too happy that the author of the ikee worm, which rickrolled their jailbroken iphones, will be getting a job at mogeneration, an iPhone app development firm. The fact the he wasn’t punished in any way certainly seems to irk security expert Graham Cluley. Check out his rant on the issue here. Was your jailbroken iPhone rickrolled when the worm was set loose?

You know, we’ve pretty much all been enamored with the Zune HD’s industrial design, but one unintended consequence for Microsoft was that it made its console look even more childish and toylike. It was inevitable, then, that a group of industrious Swedes would take up arms against this injustice and right the world with their Elegant Edition mod. Featuring three 120mm cooling fans, an aesthetic borrowed straight from the 1980s, and absolutely no shame about its bulk, this mod is cooler than the original in both the literal and colloquial sense. We’ll accept no arguments to the converse. Better still, if you’re willing to part with some cold hard cash, these fellas will build one for you too. We’ve got a few less glamorous shots of the redressed box after the break.

AMD spoiled MSI’s surprise a bit by snagging an X-Slim X430 early for its VISION gala back in September, but now that Windows 7 is out and about, MSI has decided to officialize its latest thin-and-light. Unlike most of its rivals, this one shuns Intel’s CULV lineup and instead relies on a dual-core AMD Athlon Neo X2 CPU, and with Win7 Home Premium at the helm, performance shouldn’t be too much of an issue when it comes to handling basic tasks. There’s also a 14-inch display (1,366 x 768), 2GB of RAM, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, gigabit Ethernet, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, HDMI / VGA sockets, an SD card slot, a 320GB or 500GB HDD and even an optional Blu-ray drive (albeit an external one). 4 and 8-cell batteries will also be available, and at 3.3 pounds, we’re guessing you won’t need to bulk up before slapping this in your knapsack.

Text input on the Samsung Omnia II from Verizon will be powered by Swype technology which is touted to increase typed speed alongside correcting all standard errors automatically. Ditching the QWERTY method, Swype will instead rely on tracing the path a user takes to type, arriving at the correct letter. The video that you see above shows Swype beating the iPhone hands down, but then again such a test would be valid with many random sentences typed out instead of one which could be pre-mediated that ends up as a favorable result for Swype.

With the popularity of smartphones nowadays, we’re not too sure how well the Kingjim Pomera note taking device will be received. It sports a full-sized Japanese keyboard. The latest version (DM20) sports 89MB of internal memory, 5-inch VGA display, USB port and microSD card expansion. You’re also able to send emails and documents once you’re connected to a mobile phone. It’s powered by 2 AAA batteries and will set you back a good 35,000 Yen ($399).
