We’ve been enjoying (or just dealing with, depending on perspective) PCI Express 2.0 since early 2007, and it now looks as if we may still be utilizing said protocol come early 2011. Way back in June of ’08, we began to hear whispers that the next iteration of the technology would be finalized by the end of this year, but now the PCI SIG has formally delayed the release of the specification until the second quarter of 2010. What does that mean for the consumer? Try coping with the fact that you won’t see a PCIe 3.0 product until 2011. As the story goes, the delay was needed in order to “maintain backward compatibility with current PCI Express standards,” and while the technical details of all that may interest some, it’s the awfully unfortunate setback that’s most notable here. But hey, at least all those PCIe 1.0 cards that are still totally relevant will work with your next (next-next?) PC!

It’s not necessarily on the level of Yankee Stadium’s jetstream, but the new Dallas Cowboys stadium has its own problems. The massive HDTV strung up over the field was hit by a punt during the first NFL game played there last night. So far, by the rules that will result in a do-over, while owner Jerry Jones says there are no plans to move the screen and he doubts anyone will hit it during the regular season. Check the video evidence embedded after the break, somehow we doubt this is the last time this happens.

If his story is to be believed (and it seems pretty believable), an anonymous tipster to Engadget Japanese got a nice surprise with his recent Mac mini purchase: a Snow Leopard install disc. It’s one of those vanilla hardware-specific install discs, dubbing itself Mac OS version 10.6, and clearly packing the goods if the screenshots don’t lie. This only adds confusion to the ship date, which has been listed as August 28th on Apple’s online store, dubbed as “September” elsewhere, and obviously been totally disregarded in this specific case. No matter what, it looks like we won’t have long to wait. Hit up the read link for a couple of Japanese-infused screencaps.

It took the Big N right around a year to actually ship its Wii MotionPlus dongle after first showing it off at E3 2008, and now we’re curious to know if you think the wait was worth it. We’ve already spilled our deepest, darkest thoughts on the $20 add-on accessory, but now that Wii Sports Resort is out (and still firmly lodged within your Wii’s optical drive), we just can’t wait another second to hear from end users. Are you pleased with the additional sensing capabilities? Has it enhanced your gameplay as you thought it would? What aspects would you like to see changed? You just paid a Jackson for a brick that attaches to your perfectly functional Wiimote — don’t miss your chance to pick it apart.

It looks like there might be a trend brewing among products with nondescript September release windows coming out in August instead — first with Apple, and now with Sony. Supply shortages or no, Amazon’s telling those who pre-ordered the PlayStation 3 Slim the first day it was announced should expect to have their consoles in-hand on Wednesday, August 26th, almost a whole week before the new month begins. Delivery estimates are subject to change, of course, but Amazon’s not one to typically screw around with shipping confirmations. Any other early adopters received confirmations lately?

Fans of anime will find these keyboard designs from E-Junex to be their cup of tea, featuring anime-style gals on the surface that ought to get hot-blooded males’ pulses racing. Featuring the artwork of illustrators Tony Taka and Carnelian, these keyboards will retail for approximately $100 a pop – pretty expensive by any standards, but for a true blue otaku, that can be considered as loose change. It’s all a matter of perspective, you know.

While we love those fast, high-capacity CompactFlash cards guaranteed to capture every frame of HD video shot by modern DSLRs, occasionally it would be nice to process those pixels to an SDHC card. The convenience of SD or the fact that you likely have more than a few unused cards lying around is enough justification to switch, at least temporarily. Fortunately, Akihabara News did a quick hands-on demonstration of the PhotoFast CR-7000 doing the SDHC-to-CF adapter thing inside of Canon’s ultra-quick 5D Mark II. Sure, it won’t capture 1080p video, but it seems to handle bursting reasonable well in a pinch. Check the full read over at Aki after peeping the video after the break.

We were all excited for Lenovo’s NVIDIA ION-powered IdeaPad S12, which was gonna be the first netbook to market with the HD-capable chipset — but alas, it was not yet meant to be. Gizmodo reports the company has decided to delay the portable until the end of October, just after Windows 7′s launch on the 22nd. By then it’ll have to face competition from Samsung, whose $599 N510 will launch first in September, and possibly a rumored HP device coming in the next few weeks. We can take solace in the fact that the ION upgrade will only add $50 to the current $499 tag, but having to wait
